Back2017 ITF PAM AM CHAMPIONSHIP

With great pride, The Canadian Elite Taekwon-Do Federation sends this report on the 2017 Pan American Championship.
On Thursday the 27th of July at 5 am Master Demers and Mr El Bey picked up the ITF Umpire''''s Chairman and Commitee member (GM Gallarraga & Master Maidana) at the Pearson International Airport. During the day we had the opportunity to explore the Championship schedule and bracketing, then dinner at the Gonoe Sushi restaurant with President Choi where we all shared in excellent conversation and food.
Also, on early morning of Friday the 28th at 5 am Master Demers & Mr El Bey picked up the entire Argentinian delegation and members of the USA delegation. At 7 pm, Umpires meeting and black belt weight-ins took place , during that time the C.E.T.F. members with Master Demers and the C.E.T.F. Executive, set up the venue for the Championship. After the set up a dinner was organized with President Choi, GM Han, GM Gallarraga, Master Maidana, Master Barat, Master Reid, Master Crochet, Master Demers and Mr El Bey were we discussed preparations for the Pan Am and the 2018 World Championship in Argentina.
On Saturday the 29th the championship started with the coloured belt divisions. Once all division were finished black belts individuals started. Opening ceremony took place at 1 pm with President Choi entering the venue with Master Reid, President Choi address the competitors followed by the Mrs Dickson from Ottawa Valley TKD singing the National Anthem. President Choi stayed in the venue for a long period to oversee the competition. The competition ended at 8 pm followed by a dinner with President Choi.
On Sunday the 30th, final day of the competition continued with the black belt division resumed at 9:30 am followed by the power breaking divisions and team competition. A\er the lunch break President Choi was introduced and addressed participants and discussed with all of them for a period of 20 minutes. During the day, CityTV (the local Toronto news channel) came to filmed the event and Master Reid represented the ITF/CETF in an interview where he addressed questions on our Art, the event, and the pending World Championship of 2018.
Before the closing of the event 2 awards were giving , 1st was for the most International supporting delegation which was given to the Master Barat of the Argentinian delegation, and the second was for the most supported Canadian school which was White Lightning TKD who’s Instructors are Mr Glen & Beth White.
In conclusion, the overall atmosphere was outstanding, the competitors enjoyed a high standard of competition for which some had never experienced before. The spectators and supporters gave numerous reports of enjoyment in seeing a well run event with a professional standard which gave great example of the beauty of General Choi’s legacy carried on through his son President Choi.
It has been an honor to host such a prestigious event on behalf of the ITF and we look forward to the honour of host events in the future. We as an organization hope the experience was pleasant for all which took part!
