BackITF President Choi Jung Hwa and Yang Jin-bang, KTA Chuncheon meeting

An 'historic meeting' in the modern history of Taekwondo took place on August 11 in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do.

At 11am on the same day, International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) President Choi Jung Hwa visited the Hoban Gymnasium where the Chuncheon Korea Open International Taekwondo Tournament was being held at the official invitation of Korea Taekwondo Association (KTA) President Yang Jin-bang.

In the meantime, KTA and the World Taekwondo Federation (WT) have had taekwondo exchanges with ITF (President Ri Yong-seon), which is led by North Korea in terms of inter-Korean relations and world sports trends, meaning is very great.

ITF-KOREA Secretary General Yoo Seung-hee and KTA Director Eorn Jae-young played a big role until President Choi and Chairman Yang met unexpectedly on this day. ITF-KOREA notified KTA of the information in advance for an official meeting between the two, and KTA held an executive meeting and deliberategd on it before agreeing.

On this day, President Choi and Chairman Yang talked about the trend of world Taekwondo and the current status of the ITF, and watched the performance of the KTA Demonstration Team held at the Hoban Gymnasium.

Chairman Yang plans to send a KTA demonstration performance team to give a celebratory performance at the opening ceremony of the 2023 ITF Championship World Games, which will be held on September 8 at the Olympic Park Handball Stadium in Seoul. Regarding this, Chairman Yang said, "On the day of the opening ceremony, the secretary general and I will go on a business trip abroad."

President Choi and Chairman Yang do not end this meeting as a one-time event, but plan to meet again to build a cooperative relationship in the future.

Meanwhile, around 10 ITF professional gyms and clubs are operated in Korea under the umbrella of ITF-KOREA, and ITF Taekwondo is being spread.
