7th Feb 2007 The International Irish Championships, Cork City
This year’s International Irish Championships was organised by the Irish United Taekwon-Do Federation (IUTF) and it proved to be Ireland’s largest Taekwon-Do competition ever with over 700 entrants. The event has become one of the premier annual competitions on the European calendar which a huge foreign contingent now regularly attending each year.

11th Dec 2006 First Hong Kong Cyberport Cup
A new ITF local championship was founded this year with the holding of the first Cyberport Cup in the Cyberport shopping mall on Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. The event was presided over by Master Chew of Malaysia who accompanied the visiting teams to the event and was sponsored jointly by Cyberport, who hosted the event, and Adidas, who provided the sparring equipment. The event is intended to become an annual fixture.

7th Dec 2006 IUTF Host Master Maidana Workshops
Master Jose Maidana traveled to Ireland in October for 15 days in order to conduct a series of workshops around the country. The trip was hosted by the Irish United Taekwon-Do Federation and it was the second time that the well respected Master has traveled to the country as guest of the IUTF.

16th Nov 2006 A Great Review of the Cycle of Taekwon-Do (Soonhwan Do)
On November 11, 2006, Special Assistant to President Choi, ITF Treasurer, ITF Technical Committee Member, and VI Degree Black Belt, Mr. Parm Rai, traveled to All-Star Taekwon-Do in Fairfield, New Jersey (USA), to conduct a 4.5-hour ITF workshop. Participants ranked from yellow belts through 6th degree black belts and traveled from 4 states (Nevada, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania) to train with Mr. Rai.

28th Jun 2006 ITF UMPIRE COURSE & 2ND INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIPS REPORT
The much awaited 1st ITF Umpire Course in Africa and the 2nd ITF Intercontinental Cup came and went in Lagos, Nigeria, between March 31st to April 2nd 2006. The event, which attracted participants from 12 Countries was history in the making as it marked the first official foray of the ITF in Africa after forty years, and coming on the month of the 40th anniversary of the ITF it was apt and well received.

31st May 2006 Seminar in Swindon
On the 21st of May 2006, members of the UKITF from the Imperial and PUMA associations made the journey to Swindon to train under Masters Gayle and Ogbourne with Master Nicholls as the special guest of the seminar. With all proceeds going towards funding the Junior UKITF members travelling to Australia, the three masters and the assistances present gave up their valuable time to teach and coach the members at the seminar.

19th Apr 2006 MY THOUGHTS ON NIGERIA AND THE ITF
I have just returned from a trip that saw me travel to Ireland, Nigeria and then Egypt. I previously wrote about the success of the Master’s Seminar in Ireland and the sense of family that seems to always underscore an International event. Clearly, Master Choi is very fortunate to have an organization that believes in him and all that his father taught him. Likewise, the organization is fortunate to have a solid base of Master’s and Senior instructors that are adamant about preserving the art as developed by General Choi.

12th Apr 2006 What it means to be a Black Belt.
What does it mean to be a Black Belt? By definition the meaning of Black Belt is, “Opposite of white, therefore, signifying the maturity and proficiency in Taekwon-Do” (Gen. Choi Hong Hi, 1999, pp. 373). As any Black Belt would know, the journey towards gaining a Black Belt is a long and arduous undertaking, and every individual who undertakes this journey, will have their own perspective on what being a Black Belt really means.

“Here are my fees, now give me my belt” is a phrase heard too often in the enterprise that is becoming Taekwon-Business. It would be a grave sin to reduce the art of Taekwon-Do to an industry, a profit-generating institute driven solely by demand. Yet, with the contemporary material-drive society this has almost become the norm, not only for Taekwon-Do, but also throughout a myriad of martial arts.
