|On Saturday June 4th, 2005 the 2nd Can-Am Championships was held in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, by Morningstar Taekwon-Do. The tournament featured competitors from across Canada and the United States and boasted a head table of 18 instructors, including the President of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF), Grandmaster Choi Jung Hwa and Vice President of the ITF, Mr. Michael Tibollo. |
The tournament brought over 450 competitors and 350 spectators, nearly filling the 1,000-seat venue. The cheers from the crowd were most notable whenever there was a final match between the USA and Canada, each country waving their respective flags and encouraging their country’s competitor.
The tournament started with an opening ceremony that was culminated with some inspirational words from ITF President, Grandmaster Choi Jung Hwa, who emphasized the importance of competing in the spirit of the tenets of Taekwon-Do.
The tournament was highlighted by a fiercely competitive Black Belt division consisting of over 130 participants, many of whom had international experience competing in the previous year’s ITF World Championships in South Korea.
As a final note, the proceeds from the spectator fees, totaling CAN$1,655, are being donated by Morningstar Taekwon-Do to the Kidney Foundation of Canada as part of Morningstar Taekwon-Do’s break-a-thon fundraiser. For more information please visit http://www.mstartkd.com/breakathon.
