Afghanistan National ITF Taekwon-Do Federation held the “First ITF Taekwon-Do National Championships called Peace Cup” at the gymnasium of the National Olympic Committee of Afghanistan from 27 through 29 May 2011.
The championships were sanctioned by the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee with the purpose of selecting the National Junior and Senior teams. All ITF practitioners, irrespective of their affiliations, were invited to participate at the championships.
14 teams, total 140 participants, from 7 provinces of Afghanistan such as Kabul, Herat, Balkh, Kunduz, Baghlan, Badakhshan, and Kandahar participated at this event.
Since there were time constraints, the championships included only two disciplines, Pattern and Sparring. In the Pattern, the participants did both individual and team patterns, where as the sparring was done individually.
The members of Afghan Taekwon-Do Association performed very well in both disciplines which led to obtaining the second position at the country level through winning 8 Gold, 18 Silver, and 23 Bronze Medals.
The entire event was sponsored by the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee. The participants, coming from provinces, were provided accommodation, meal and transportation by Afghanistan NOC. Medals, trophies and certificates were also provided to the winner participants.
A big thank to the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee!
