We travelled down to HQ for it, there were 4 grading to 6th degree, 4 going to 4th, 7 to 3rd, 1 to 2nd, and 2 going for 1st degree. 100% pass rate which is really good.
I was devestated about my destruction, it did not go well at all!!! Jumping reverse turning kick and jumping turning kick failed on both legs for both of them I just cant get my hips to rotate properly because of my back problem to allow me to do those kicks but I was allowed to do reverse side kick instead which thankfully I got through.
main thing is, you passed! Dont dwell on the breaking. Iv had that problem several times but usually at competitions. Break brilliantly at my club leading up to comp, then totally mess up on the day. Also diff boards produce diff results. Did you take your own wooden boards or were they provided for you? I found some brilliant pine stuff at Harlows timber merchants. One inch thick and they cut it to size. Dried it out well and broke like a dream. Suprisingly given we still use the old wooden free standing horse. You loose some force when they move!
I made the mistake of not taking my own boards, won't be doing that again in a hurry I will tell you lol.
I think it is a psychological thing too you have to believe you will break before you attempt it. I think I was more concerned about hurting my back than anything to start with. I am just glad it's over.
Star of the day though was Mr Mike Carr (wipeout from tkd source) he had a brilliant grading!!!
Yep its def psychological too. I know we get 'judge' on your attitude toward the break also. It doesn't bode well for you if you walk up to the horse and start shying away from it or looking like you don't dare whack it!
You have to show confidence with breaking a think-even if you don't think it! But i struggled with my dangling air break on my 3rd degree test. This was cus on my 2nd degree test,it was the 1st time i'd ever tried a break like this. I did reverse turning kick on it 3 times and all i did was almost smash my heel to bits! Was in some serious pain for 6 weeks after and mild pain for weeks after that. So you can imagine what my 3rd dan test was like, knowing i had to do the same thing. I gave it fully welly on my first attempt as i'd said before,i'm only gonna attempt it once,so if i hit it full whack and it still don't break, thats it. Wasnt prepared to be in plaster! However,i did still give it a 2nd go! LOL. still didnt break so there was no way in hell i was doing it a 3rd time!
How many boards were you expected to break with your foot techniques?
