the bottom line is we choose to be with master choi and follow his teachings and if you don't agree with the path he is leading us on then maybe you need to look somewhere else. i only joined up with imperial in the uk in feb this year after being in one of the other itf groups but already i see more forward thinking and evolution in 4 months than i did in years with the other group. nothing else in the world stands still without getting stale and outdated so why should taekwon-do be any different. my only concern is that as the itf evolves other groups calling themselves itf 'style' get so far away from what we are teaching they are more or less doing a different martial art but still promoting themselves as authentic tkd. just my honest opinion.
You find most of the outsiders saying they teach 'Origional' Tae Kwon Do - Translated they teach TKD of years gone by and cant be bothered to adapt to the new ways of ITF.
Agree on your point - Do it or bog off, most are working hard to reach what GM HWA wants, If they aint then they should leave ITF C.
Could someone please help me clear a point on this. I know the moves remain the same and the name as changed to Kodang, but what about the interpretation? I have heard different views and not sure what is right.
Mr Peel, i've only realised the 39 movements of the pattern Kodang will not measure up to the 45 movements of the pattern Juche as per interpretation. Interesting to see how we get around that one! The ITF will probably clarify that sometime soon.

I am in the process of bringing my clubs across from an Independent to the ITF, for pretty much the same reasons that are mentioned previously, what they purport to be TKD is actually becoming very far from what the General developed, and is much more like freestyle kickboxing than TKD.
As a 2nd dan I have been learning a pattern they called Ko-Dang, looks like I have been wasting a bit of time on that one. Never mind, it just gives me the chance to learn a bit more!!! :-)
The way I see it is that as the ITF are under the presidency of GM Choi who better is there to say what is or isn't TKD??? If GM Choi decides that something must revert to a previous state as per ki-hap in patterns or pattern name changes then that is what should be done. GM Choi is afterall the person who was closest to the General, and was born into TKD, and has lived his whole life TKD, I think he knows what he is doing.
Anyway we can't wait to become a part of the ITF through Imperial, look forward to meeting you all soon.
I would like to pose a question to anyone reading. Our organization (ITF) currently practices both Juche (with the 2-direction twisting/side piercing kicks) and Ko-Dang (with the bending ready stance "B"'s and middle hook kicks near the end).
They rename Juche with the name Ko-Dang. What is to happen with Ko-Dang? Sounds silly, but I really like both tul's and get confused when I think about it (even though I do one much better than the other). If someone already explained that in a previous posting, my deepest apologies for my ignorance.
From my understanding the original Ko-Dang tul was replaced with Juche back in the 80's and as such was no longer regarded as part of the ITF Syllabus. I know my association removed Ko-Dang and replace it with Juche. I am sure there were many independent groups that kept the original format, as they were not obliged to follow ITF procedures.
Therefore technically speaking by renaming Juche to Ko-Dang should not cause an issue as it was not one of the 24 patterns currently in the ITF Syllabus.
Not much help for groups who practice both but as mentioned ITF Syllabus dictates there are only 24 patterns.

I'm glad for the change. I hope all who do "Chang Hon" will embrace the change. I learnt the original kodang and have studied the new one, working to improve myself in its techniques. I do not worry about the politics. If it stays, then it stays, if it changes, then hopefully all will change the name. I doubt it and we will never reach "Tong Il"
