i have recently changed my old routine( tom kurtz method ) that i have used for a number of years and have started a new one i stumbled across while surfing the net. the new method is by a guy called paul zaichik and is called elastic steel in case anyone is interested. the main focus of my new routine seems to be strengthening all the muscles around the hips in order to push past your natural stretch reflex where your body tries to stop you going any further. i must say that i think i'm getting more flexible in my 30's than i was in my late teens & 20's although it takes a bit longer to get there. thought i would start a topic about this as it would be interesting to compare with others out there and see what everyone else does.

Hi Mr Mullin,
This is the program I use and according to my students most of them, I have used it since day one have a look www.uk-ltsi.com/ie/pdfs/stretching.pdf.

Works for me and I can stretch at 35, I still do both the front and side split, use to be able to sit between to chairs but not now as my knees wont take it.

hi mr snow,
liked the look of your routine and i had a quick question for you. how many times a week do you do this as i currently do my whole routine 3 times a week on top of class stretching. as you say in your guide at 1 hour sometimes the routines can get quite boring and do you add any strength exercises into your routines or are you one of the blessed who has always had natural flexibility (unlike me). i'm always on the lookout for different methods to try and freshen things up a bit as i get bored quite quickly stretching.

thanks

Sounds interesting, I too am a fan of Kurtz and have used his methods for a long time now. So far I've maintained a decent level of flexibilty.

hi mr mackey,
if you want to have a look his website is www.elasticsteel.com and there is also a good forum up and running where people who use his method can chat. i don't want to slate tom kurtz method as i used it for going on 16 years but i always got to a certain level of flexibility and then got stuck there. the new method has much the same ideas but just uses a different approach. have a look and let me know what you think.

Mr. Snow,
I think we unanimously want you to dance at the very next Taekwon-Do banquet; with sine wave and all other motions.
