I was asked by my student a 3rd Dan about Sam -Il - He said on the two side kicks near the end you teach close the hands and kick yet in the encylopedia it says hands stay open in knife hand and kick and the second is the only one closed in palmok deabi,

Now I have either lost the plot - I was always taught by Master Choy you close up the hands but he is right it says keep open in KH,

Quick question is he right? if so I need to re educate myself as I am passing on what I was taught and it has never been picked up on by any of the Masters I have sat coureses and seminars unmder

I know we all make mistakes - I just need to know what is right or not,

Thanks Embarrassed

Mr. Snow,

On 18 after the jump we form/maintain knife hand guarding block
On 23 after the W-shape block we form a forearm guarding block

Thanks sir, that helps - I will pass this on and make sure I change it,

Another question - Befor the low block prior to turning around and executing the inward block and front snapp kick are we punching forward with the left arm and executing an upward punch right arm with the palm facing our face or is the palm facing down to the shoulder.

this is Another way I was taught which I have seen variations too over the years.

thanks

Hi Mr Snow
The punch is palm facing down and is deployed behind the head, stopping just past the ear

Hope that helps

Thats good, Thats the way I do it, I remember a Master in the UKTA saying palm facing ear but I have always done it palm facing down - so I thought I would check.

cheers
